Rae Wilcoxson | Dancer
Rae was born and raised in West Lafayette, Indiana and graduated from Indiana University-Bloomington with her BFA, having double majored in Dance and Pre-Optometry with a minor in Spanish. There she worked with Juel D. Lane, Azuki Umeda, Cameron McKinney, Baba Stafford, Erik Abbott-Main, Beatrice Capote, and Elizabeth Shea. Rae trains in a variety of dance styles, but especially enjoys concert modern, contemporary, jazz, and Cuban dance forms.
In spring 2022, Rae was recognized as a Marona Svetlova Award Recipient with her self-choreographed contemporary solo and self-produced music. She has a passion for movement creation and has choreographed for Miami Arts Charter School, South Miami Middle School, Miami Royal Ballet, IU’s Senior Capstone Showcase, and West Lafayette Jr./Sr. High School, consisting of solos through large ensembles in contemporary, Horton, jazz, pom, musical theater, and hip hop. While attending IU, Rae danced professionally with the African American Dance Company. Her favorite performances include Potpourri at the IU auditorium, dancing with the Limon Company at Aaron Davis Hall, and in Spring to Dance in St. Louis. She currently teaches at Studio 61 and Maria Verdeja School of the Arts and is a Community Engagement Teaching Artist for Miami City Ballet. Rae has danced with Dance Now! Miami since 2022 and has toured with the company to New York City and Italy.
