The Performance Experience -
A Day in the Life of a Dancer

DNM presents a lecture demonstration on the development of Contemporary Western dance from Ballet to the Instagram and Tik-Tok generation, including a short history as well as demonstrating the differences and similarities between Ballet, Modern, Jazz and contemporary dance. This presentation is followed by performances and a question and answer session where the students apply their new knowledge and talk to the dancers about professional life.

The Classroom Experience

Master Classes are offered in ballet, modern, Broadway jazz, contemporary, as well as Yoga and Pilates. This aspect of the program is valuable for students with all levels of training and encourages self-discipline and self-motivation, challenging the students to assimilate new material and information into their dance training and their daily lives. The Yoga and Pilates classes help the participants to develop body-mind-breath connections, very important elements in performance preparation, injury rehabilitation, and stress relief.

The Creative Experience

Improvisation, exploration and composition workshops: Through structured improvisation and composition classes, DNM’s master teachers present choreographic tools and teach form and structure in dance, guiding the students in the exploration of their choreographic voices and exploring tools that can be used in the creation of their own work.

This module may also include the creation of new choreographic work or a re-staging of an excerpt from the DNM repertoire on the students to be performed by the students at multiple school performances, and any solos taught may used for college and conservatory auditions. Combined with the technique classes, the creation of new work allows the students to approach new movement styles and then apply them to choreography, creating a more valuable experience.
