Spice up your holiday season with “Clara,” Dance NOW! Miami’s saucy interpretation of the Nutcracker. This updated contemporary dance version of the holiday classic, charts the journey of a young woman, questioning, discovering, exploring and experiencing the exotic, the unknown and the forbidden, in search of love, identity and self-determination. Once she lets her hair down, she turns her attention to Dross (Drosselmeyer) and the result is enlightening and revealing for both!
The one-act suite, choreographed collaboratively between Artistic Directors Diego Salterini and Hannah Baumgarten has a re-imagined soundtrack of the Tchaikovsky classic created by composer and ongoing collaborator Davidson Jaconello out of Poland, with costumes from the Morales Sisters and a unique, nimble set which transforms the Sanctuary stage into the magical world Clara explores, conceived and designed by Bruce F. Brown.
The one-night-only evening of dance will also feature four of DNM’s audience favorites as part of the year-long 25th anniversary celebration. Included int he evening will be “Drawing Circles,” Salterini’s 2007 homage to MIMO Architecture, not only loved but also preserved in South Florida, “Speaking Sweetly,” Baumgarten’s exploration of the joys of falling in love, perfect for the holiday spirit, created originally in 2006 while at Interlochen Arts Camp, “All Shook Up” a solo created for the Out Games in 2018, and the finale of “Gli Altri/The Others,” created collaboratively by both Directors and one of DNM’s trademark works.
