Denise Wolpert | President

Denise Wolpert has participated in, been employed in and supported the arts most of her life.

Ms. Wolpert grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa. She majored in History of Art and History of Music at the University of the Witwatersrand, simultaneously studying the Margaret Morris Movement, a British system of dance. Having received her dance teacher’s diploma, Denise owned and operated a dance studio until immigrating with her husband and two small children to the United States in 1979 and settling in Miami.

Denise was active as a Cultural Arts volunteer at the Alper Jewish Community Center and served on its Board of Directors for seven years. In 2001 she accepted a position at the Bass Museum of Art. There she took on numerous roles in the development, education and special events departments, one of which was conceiving and planning a Sunday concert series. It was here that Denise began her collaboration with Dance NOW! Miami. Over the next six years, in cooperation with Denise and the Bass, DNM’s Artistic Directors, Diego and Hannah, choreographed site-specific works that related to either the art on view or the architecture of the museum.

During her tenure at the Bass, Denise was promoted to Director of Individual Giving and Special Events and in 2014 retired from her position at the Museum.

Following her retirement, she served on the Board of Directors of Citizens Interested in Arts, a non-profit organization raising funds for grant allocation to local arts organizations and is currently active in the Brandeis National Committee, South Dade Chapter, conceiving and expediting learning opportunities for the local community.
